Oriol Calvo on ‘Tankah’: A Deep Dive into His Musical Journey and Creative Process

Oriol Calvo

Tell us more about yourself & your music career:The reality is that I’m an artist who never thought about certain goals or wanting this or that. Everything has happened in a very natural way, and above all, with a lot of work and perseverance that I certainly don’t have in other aspects of my life but for music and my career, yes. Letting everything flow, accompanied by positivity, makes things happen! And that’s how it is. Sometimes from the outside, people think everything is easy, that traveling is just about the hotel and the party, that playing is just the photo or video of the top moment, and no… there are many moments of solitude, doubts, and fears too, but each person’s character makes these just occasional moments, though important ones that help you grow and improve. Growing TEN Ibiza as a brand for 10 years, as an artist agency for 5 years, and as a music label (opened this year) is a beautiful process that keeps growing.

Write a short paragraph about your RELEASE
“Tankah (Original Mix)” is a sonic journey that captures the essence of Tankah Bay in Tulum. This track blends organic elements with deep, rhythmic beats, creating a soundscape that is both meditative and energizing. Perfect for the dance floor, “Tankah” reflects my passion for merging natural sounds with electronic music, offering listeners a taste of the mystical beauty that inspires me.

What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia?
My collaboration with Cafe De Anatolia reflects a natural connection based on our shared passion for fusing the ancestral with the contemporary in music. The label is known for its mystical sounds that transport to exotic places, an artistic vision that I deeply share. My release “Tankah (Original Mix)” encapsulates this fusion, inspired by Tankah in Tulum. This project has been a milestone in my career, expanding my global audience and strengthening my relationship with a label that values authenticity and emotional depth in music.

What initially sparked your passion for music, and how did you decide to pursue a career in the industry?
Well, it’s very difficult to choose just a few moments. In over 25 years of playing music and traveling around the world, there are many memorable experiences; but playing at Tomorrowland this July has been incredible with a very house-focused set, even playing house tracks from the years I used to play on the terrace of Space Ibiza, which is definitely another of the memorable moments of my musical career! Should I have counted all my gigs? Would it be thousands in 25 years? I think so, without a doubt! And what I do know is that they’ve been in more than 60 countries… Crazy, right?

What has been your biggest career highlight so far?
Beyond great residencies in Ibiza, in the best venues like Space, Pacha, Privilege, Akasha, etc., or playing at events like Burning Man or Tomorrowland, my biggest milestone without any doubt is being able to make a living from a passion, from something as beautiful as music, and meeting so many beautiful people around the world who open their homes to you, who are happy to see you, and being able to make so many people dance in so many places. Staying alive in music is wonderful. Thanks to all those who accompany me on the journey, to those close people who are always there, and especially to my TEN Ibiza team, without them this would not be possible!

What are your latest releases? Are you working on something new?
As I said, the label is the newest thing, a platform where we can showcase our TEN Ibiza sound and from our artists! Also, events all over the world, in Ibiza, in Tulum as summer and winter residencies, and then Pop Up events in Chile or Egypt this August! It’s incredible to see the brand in such beautiful and distant places!

Where and when is your next performance?
This summer I have been and will be playing in countries like Belgium, Turkey, Mexico, Germany, USA, Spain, Beirut, Chile, etc. I love traveling but it’s necessary to pass through home and take some mini-breaks to remember where you are from, as in Ibiza I’ve found my place for more than two decades!

Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?
I always say patience, especially in these times where immediacy, wanting things now, and having so much access to information make people impatient. And above all, believe in what you’re doing and offering. Nowadays, besides being artists, we are brands, we are inspiration, and we must be very focused and always seek quality in all our actions, and respect for music! It’s not all about likes!
