Belgian techno icon Charlotte de Witte has breathed new life into Scoop’s iconic 1999 dance hit Drop It, delivering a powerful remix through her archival label, Époque. The rework, set for release on 7th August, pays tribute to a pivotal era in European club culture.
Originally a floor-filler across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, Drop It holds a special place in the collective memory of ravers. Now, de Witte offers her own interpretation, connecting past and present generations of club-goers.
“‘Drop It’ is one of those tracks that never really left the dance floor,” de Witte shared in a press release. “It carries the spirit of an era, especially in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Reworking it for Époque felt like a tribute to a timeless moment in rave history. This one’s for the dancers, then and now.”
A Tribute Through Époque
Époque, a sub-label of de Witte’s KNTXT imprint, was created to honor Belgium’s rich dance music heritage. It launched in January 2024 with her remix of Push’s Universal Nation, a 1998 trance classic. Since then, Époque has evolved from an archival project into a forward-thinking label with a nostalgic soul.
A Landmark Summer for de Witte
This remix follows a monumental weekend for the techno powerhouse, who made history by opening and closing Tomorrowland on the same day—a first for any artist. Remarkably, this feat came just days after a fire damaged the main stage.
In addition to Drop It, Charlotte de Witte’s recent projects include:
- A remix on Enrico Sangiuliano’s The Techno Code rework EP
- Her own techno tracks No Division and The Realm, taken from her upcoming self-titled debut album
Fans can also catch her only Ibiza appearance of the summer at [UNVRS] on 22nd September.
