Meet LAION: Music Career Highlights and Collaboration with Cafe De Anatolia

Tell us more about yourself and your music career.

I have been working in the entertainment industry for about 10 years. I started very young in the production area of big events such as ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (C.A.B.A) and MUTE (Mar del Plata) (Argentina). At the age of 27, I turned my focus entirely to music. I created my own music label and embarked on the world of music production and parties. Eight years ago, I left Argentina and spent six months traveling and playing in Colombia. I eventually arrived in Mexico, where I have been living for more than 8 years. I participate in the production and musical curation of big events and cycles in TULUM (Beso Salvaje, FAIT, Pareidollia Tulum, Tulum Cypto Fest (2022, 2023), Sagrado Tulum, Vagalume & more. I am also part of a project duo called NITOS Tulum with which we have participated in big events like Woomoon Tulum, Storytellers, ElBaile (Ibiza), Las Dalias (Ibiza), Blue Marlin (Ibiza), Kong (Romania), and our last release reached the #7 spot on the Best Releases on Beatport. In October, my label KMT Records will be 8 years old, with more than 80 artists from all over the world, 150 tracks, and 26 releases. How would you describe your music style? I don’t think I have a defined or fixed style. I’m still searching for my sound. For now, I really enjoy working with rhythms, cultures, and instruments without restrictions. If I have to define myself within a genre, I think today it would be Downtempo Slowhouse, Organic House, and Afro House Music.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere. I love to sample vocals, sounds, and collaborate with different musicians. I also love to listen to music from all times and corners of the world.

What is your best time of the day to create?

In the morning, after my coffee, and when I know I have the whole day free with no other tasks ahead. I can sit and produce for hours. Six to seven hours is a good time to get something solid done, or else I feel like I’ve lost my day.

Who are your musical influences?

My favorite artists, not only musically but also for their freshness and personality, are Ricardo Villalobos and Dennis Cruz. I also like Argentine Rock and Folklore, artists like Fito Paez, Charly Garcia, and Mercedes Sosa.

What is the most difficult thing about being a musician?

Perhaps the most difficult thing is the distance. When you start a tour or move to another country to pursue your dream, you often have to move away from your family and friends. But it’s worth it!

What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

I recently had the pleasure of taking part in the musical curation of Tulum Crypto Fest and sharing a tribute set for the 50 Years of Pink Floyd with Scott Page, the official saxophonist of the band. It was an amazing experience! Another great milestone is my gig at ZANZIBAR Tarzania on the beaches of Paje with my great friend Dj Ino at B4 Beach.

What are your latest releases?

My last three releases have made it into the Top 100:

  1. “Be Free” with MC Jonny Def x BeAdult Music – #10 Best Release, #19 Downtempo & Organic House
  2. “Cantos Al Viento” with Antos x KMT Records (Dj Vibe) – #17 Best Release, #19 Hype Downtempo & Organic House
  3. “Tribu Oro – Kambo” (Laion Remix) x Sofa Beats

What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia?

This is my first collaboration with Cafe De Anatolia. I’ve been a big fan for a long time, and I’ve been playing a lot of their music in Tulum. Releasing with Cafe De Anatolia is my dream coming true especially with the release of “Dreams Come True” EP on 24.08.2023. This album features 4 original tracks that span Afro House, Flamenco, Ethnic, Organic House, and Downtempo sounds.

Are you working on something new?

This year, I hope to release more than 10 tracks and collaborate with several amazing musicians.

Where and when is your next performance?

My European Tour starts in August and September. I will be performing in Portugal (W Algarve), Spain (Beach House Ibiza, September 19th, Nitos Tulum – Nido Las Dalias), and more dates to be confirmed soon.

What’s the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?

“Never stop learning and never stop trying. The dream is possible! Enjoy and share as much as you can.”

What’s your process for dealing with performance anxiety?

I am very perfectionistic. Before every show, I am a bit nervous. I go over in my mind all the details of the show and the different situations that may arise. I also prepare myself to solve any problems that may occur, such as issues with cables, USB, sound quality, malfunctioning CDJs, lights, etc. In those moments, I repeat a few words to myself: “Smile, enjoy, thank you.”

Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?

Be true to your dreams, don’t limit yourself, and try to create and enjoy the journey.
