Yotam Agam

CDA Mag: What inspired you to create your latest release?

Yotam Agam: My music draws inspiration from the diverse cultures I’ve had the privilege to experience, as well as my practices of Yoga and Meditation, and my deep passion for the art of recording. Being a musician and an audio engineer for most of my life, the process of creating music starts during my live sets while playing during Yoga classes or DJ sets at festivals. I infuse elements from various genres, and when something inspires me, I take it to the studio and often invite other musicians to collaborate. Their reactions and input shape the final outcome, resulting in something unique and unexpected.

CDA Mag: What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia?

Yotam Agam: I have been following the label for a couple of years and noticed how it has become a home for beautiful indie music from around the world. My latest release, “SOUND GAZING,” which is a bit more uptempo than my usual style, felt like a perfect fit for the label’s unique taste and audience.

CDA Mag: What initially sparked your passion for music, and how did you decide to pursue a career in the industry?

Yotam Agam: My passion for music wasn’t a conscious decision but a natural calling. I poured all my love into music production and never looked back. Over time, doors unfolded, and music became the main vehicle of my life. Though challenging at times, it’s been an immensely satisfying and fulfilling lifestyle, and I feel grateful for it.

CDA Mag: Can you share a memorable moment from your music career that made a significant impact on your artistic journey?

Yotam Agam: For years, I focused on recording, producing, and supporting other talented musicians from the shadows. However, a pivotal moment came when I stood alone, invited to play on a large tour in the USA. This experience pushed me to embrace my own creativity and do exactly what I wanted, marking a major turning point in my life and opening doors to create music on my terms.

CDA Mag: Tell us more about yourself & your music career?

Yotam Agam: I am a Producer/Engineer & Musician, and most of my adult life has been spent in Asia, with India as my home base. I’ve embarked on recording expeditions worldwide, capturing music and culture through films. One of my successful projects was “THE LAYA PROJECT.” Parallel to my music career, I’ve developed a strong self-practice of Yoga and Meditation, and my creativity now feeds both my music creation and Yoga practice. Today, I play at some of the largest Yoga Festivals worldwide, offering slow tempo, drone music, and mid-high tempo sets for the after-party of the Yoga practice.

CDA Mag: How would you describe your style of music?

Yotam Agam: My music style is a blend of various influences, reflecting the rich cultural experiences I’ve encountered. It ranges from slow tempo and drone music to more energetic mid-high tempo sets, catering to different moods and occasions.

CDA Mag: Where do you find inspiration?

Yotam Agam: Inspiration can come from anywhere, whether it’s the sounds of birds outside my window, the ringing of a temple bell in India, or even a random YouTube interview. Being open and aware of our surroundings allows us to find inspiration even during difficult times. It often arrives unexpectedly, like a precious gift, ready to be transformed into creative expression.
