Dutch superstar DJ Martin Garrix has been forced to take an unexpected break from performing after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis. Fans were left heartbroken when the artist announced he would not appear at the Festival Internacional del Globo in León, Mexico, where he was set to headline on November 15.
A Sudden Health Scare
The news came as a shock to fans worldwide. Known for his high-energy performances and relentless touring schedule, Garrix revealed on social media that he had undergone an emergency appendectomy and would need time to rest and recover.
“I’m truly heartbroken to share that due to an unexpected case of appendicitis and the surgery that followed, I’m unable to perform this Saturday,” he wrote. “My doctors and team have strongly advised me to rest and recover to avoid any post-surgery complications.”
Festival Plans Change
The Festival Internacional del Globo, one of the top three balloon events in the world, had been eagerly anticipating Garrix’s return after his 2022 performance. This year’s lineup still includes AFROJACK, Gloria Trevi, and Dimitri Vegas, ensuring a strong show despite the unexpected change.
The festival, which started with only 27 hot air balloons, now features over 200 from 15 different countries—a testament to its global popularity. Garrix’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, but fans have responded with an outpouring of love and support for his recovery.
A Heartfelt Message to Fans
In his post, Garrix made it clear how much he values his fans and his connection to Mexico.

“Please know this decision wasn’t made lightly. I have some of my favorite memories ever performing in this incredible country! Thank you so much for your understanding, love, and support. A good reminder for me that I’m human too, and my body needs some extra time to properly heal. I’ll be back soon, I promise.”
What’s Next for Martin Garrix
So far, this is the only show Garrix has cancelled. He is still slated to perform in Las Vegas on November 21 and 22, though no updates have been made regarding those dates. After that, the DJ has about a month off—perfect timing for a full recovery before returning to the stage stronger than ever.
A Reminder to Put Health First
