Iranian DJ, producer, and label head Nesa Azadikhah is turning her artistry into advocacy with the release of her latest EP, ‘My World.’ Scheduled for release on January 31, 2025, through Digital Artefacts (a sub-label of London’s Kulture Galerie), this project is more than music—it’s a lifeline for women prisoners in Iran.
A Cause Close to the Heart
Nesa has pledged to donate 50% of the EP’s proceeds to directly support women incarcerated in Iran, along with their families. These funds aim to provide critical aid in a nation where freedom of speech is heavily restricted.
Overcoming challenges like strict government surveillance and sanctions, Nesa and her team are working to ensure that the assistance reaches those who need it most, safely and effectively. Speaking about the initiative, Nesa said:
“We will provide direct support to families of prisoners. This ensures the aid reaches those in need and is used appropriately. However, no names can be mentioned for security reasons.”
A Personal Story in Four Tracks
‘My World’ is not just a collection of songs—it’s a reflection of Nesa’s life and journey. The EP features four tracks:
- ‘Yas’
- ‘Viki’
- ‘Shazi’
- ‘MySelf’
Each track is deeply personal, named after Nesa’s two beloved dogs, her partner, and her own introspections. Musically, the EP is a genre-blending masterpiece, combining UK techno, dark disco, and dub to create an immersive experience.
A History of Activism Through Music
Nesa Azadikhah has long been an advocate for women’s rights in Iran. In 2024, she partnered with fellow Iranian artist AIDA to release the compilation album ‘Woman, Life, Freedom.’ This project, aimed at protesting restrictions on women’s freedom, received over 2,000 positive responses and successfully raised funds to support women’s causes.
