Olendo
Write a short paragraph about your RELEASE (your inspiration, process, genre, instruments used in it, and the story behind the creation.* My upcoming release is a captivating blend of different music genres, with each track enveloped in a moody, atmospheric vibe. With a primary focus on world music and folktronica, the inspiration behind this collection is as diverse as the sounds themselves. The creative process was equally varied, with some tracks born from live recordings, while others were meticulously crafted through the manipulation of samples. Throughout the album, listeners will be transported by a rich variety of sounds, including drums, bass guitar, keys, strings, and guitar, each instrument adding its unique texture to the overall sonic landscape.
What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia? * Cafe De Anatolia (CDA) is a label that I have been following for a while now, and I am a massive advocate of its sound. I am glad that my current 4-track release will be coming out on CDA in late March 2024.
What initially sparked your passion for music, and how did you decide to pursue a career in the industry? * My passion for music ignited in primary school when I first picked up the guitar. The acoustic guitar’s sound resonated with me deeply, sparking a lifelong connection to music. In my early high school years, I expanded my musical horizons, learning to play piano, drums, and various ethnic instruments. I’ve always appreciated different genres of music and became obsessed with blending multiple genres together. This passion led me to start my music production journey at the age of 12, driven by a desire to write my own songs. It’s been a natural progression for me to pursue a career in the music industry, as music has always been an integral part of who I am.
As an artist, how do you approach the creative process? Do you have any specific rituals or methods to get into the creative mindset? * As an artist, my approach to the creative process is deeply rooted in finding inspiration. Whether it’s from another song that resonates with me or a personal experience, I need that initial spark to kickstart my creativity. One specific method I employ is setting a time limit of approximately 5 hours to complete a track, excluding the final mixdown and mastering. I’ve found that this approach keeps me focused and productive, preventing me from getting lost in too much detail. Whenever I’ve exceeded this time limit, I’ve noticed a decrease in my satisfaction with the final product. When I start producing a track, I like to begin with establishing a groove in my studio, utilizing the balanced sound of my subs to get the right kick and bass combination. Once the foundation is set, I often step away from the studio and continue layering the track with melodic elements in my headphones. I find this change in environment helps me maintain a fresh perspective and enhances my creativity. After completing the arrangement, I meticulously listen to the track on various stereo systems, including the infamous car test, to ensure the levels are perfect. Only when I’m completely satisfied do I proceed to master the track.
What do you believe sets your music apart from others in the industry? What makes your sound unique? * What sets my music apart from others in the industry is the unique blend of influences and genres that I bring to each track. I believe that my diverse musical background has allowed me to blend different genres seamlessly, creating a sound that is both familiar and innovative.
How do you stay motivated and inspired to continue creating music, especially during times when inspiration might be elusive? * Continuously listen to new music across a variety of genres.
Tell us more about yourself & your music career? * My musical journey began in primary school when I first picked up the guitar, drawn to its soulful sound. This early connection to music led me to explore other instruments, including piano, drums, and various ethnic instruments in high school. I developed a deep appreciation for different genres and became fascinated with blending multiple styles together. At the age of 12, I ventured into music production, driven by a desire to write my own songs. In my late teens, I joined a hip-hop group as their official producer, honing my skills and musical style.
