Blondie has confirmed the release of a new album in 2025, produced by Grammy-winner John Congleton. This marks their first album since 2017’s critically acclaimed Pollinator, also produced by Congleton, which featured collaborations with Joan Jett, Charli XCX, and Johnny Marr.
Guitarist and co-founder Chris Stein shared the news on Bluesky with a black-and-white photo of lead singer Debbie Harry and Congleton in the studio, captioned, “With John Congleton. New Blondie record next year.” Previously, Stein teased the project on Instagram and confirmed its progress on BBC Radio 6, revealing that mixing began earlier this year.
Congleton, known for his work with St. Vincent and Angel Olsen, hints at a fresh and innovative direction for Blondie’s new music. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this follow-up to Pollinator, which solidified the band’s relevance with its genre-defying tracks.
Blondie’s legacy includes four Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers: the disco anthem “Heart of Glass” (1979), the energetic “Call Me” (1980), the reggae-inspired “The Tide Is High” (1980), and the groundbreaking “Rapture” (1981), which fused rap and rock.
Their albums remain iconic. Parallel Lines (1978) peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, driven by hits like “Heart of Glass” and “One Way or Another.” Autoamerican (1980) reached No. 7, buoyed by “The Tide Is High” and “Rapture,” showcasing the band’s versatility. Even earlier, Eat to the Beat (1979) captivated audiences with tracks like “Dreaming,” climbing to No. 17.
Blondie’s upcoming album promises to continue their trailblazing journey, blending innovation with the timeless essence fans love.
