After nearly five decades of iconic pop and dance hits, Cher has revealed that her next album may very well be her last. The legendary singer, known for timeless anthems like “Believe,” shared this bittersweet news during an interview at London’s Lyceum Theatre on Monday while promoting her newly released memoir, Cher: The Memoir, Part One.
“I’m really excited,” Cher said about the upcoming album, “They are great songs, and I’m just really excited that I’m doing it. I’m really excited to be doing anything now.”
At 78 years old, Cher hasn’t lost her trademark humor or resilience. Reflecting on her age, she quipped, “I’m older than dirt now, OK? I’m the oldest person I meet in almost every room unless I’m in an old folks’ home.” The singer also encouraged younger generations to take risks and look forward to the future with optimism.
The upcoming album marks her first collection of original songs since her 2013 release, Closer to the Truth. While details remain under wraps, Cher teased the project earlier this month on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When asked by Fallon if she would ever make another album, she confidently replied, “I’m about to.”
Last year, Cher delighted fans with a festive twist, releasing the holiday album Christmas, which featured collaborations with artists like Tyga, Michael Bublé, and Stevie Wonder. However, her new project promises to bring something entirely fresh to the table.
Cher’s memoir, released on Nov. 19, dives deep into her journey as Cherilyn Sarkisian, chronicling her rise to fame, her partnership with Sonny Bono as part of the iconic Sixties duo Sonny & Cher, and her evolution into a solo superstar. Fans can look forward to the second installment, Cher: The Memoir, Part Two, set for release next year.
Cher has been busy on multiple fronts this year. She brought the house down last month at the revived Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show with electrifying performances of “Strong Enough” and “Believe.” She was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in October, joining a stellar lineup that included Ozzy Osbourne, A Tribe Called Quest, and Mary J. Blige.
If this truly is Cher’s swan song, it’s clear she intends to leave fans with a project that captures the essence of her unparalleled career. Whether it’s her music, her memoirs, or her indomitable spirit, Cher’s legacy is a gift that will resonate for generations to come.
