DBRA (Exclusive Interview with CDA Mag)
Tell us more about yourself & your music career.
I initially pursued a career in architecture for numerous years until realizing my true passion lay elsewhere. Music has always been an integral part of my life, from childhood onward. Transitioning to a music career felt like a natural evolution. I’ve been DJing for the past eight years across various venues in Bali. Around my fifth year, I discovered a newfound love for producing my own music, which brought me full circle to my original passion for creating music and playing instruments. I’ve struck a harmonious balance between DJing and producing, regularly performing at prominent Bali venues like Savaya, the W, and K Club. I’ve also shared the stage with renowned DJs including Boris Brejcha, Ben Bohmer, Sabo, Goldcap, Oceanvs Orientalist, and Sebastien Leger.
What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia?
I deliberately chose Cafe De Anatolia due to its iconic status as a label dedicated to downtempo, organic, and oriental music. Interestingly, I had the honor of performing at their inaugural event in Bali, and they’ve remained on my mind as an ideal collaborator since. When the opportunity arose to find a label for this song, Cafe De Anatolia was unequivocally my first choice to collaborate with.
How do you stay motivated and inspired to continue creating music, especially during times when inspiration might be elusive?
When faced with creative blocks in the studio, I find it helpful to take a step back and engage in activities I love. Nature has a rejuvenating effect on me, whether it’s a brief half-hour escapade or a few days immersed in it. Additionally, I draw inspiration from cherished classic tunes. These practices aid in reigniting my creative spark. As a DJ, curating fresh tracks keeps me enthusiastic about planning future sets. Meanwhile, as a producer, the motivation comes naturally, as music creation is an intrinsic instinct that beckons me constantly.
How would you describe your style of music?
In essence, my music is characterized by its groove, melody, and exotic undertones. Drawing from my Indonesian heritage, I infuse traditional music elements, imbuing each creation with a distinct sound and an evocative, soothing ambiance.
What is the most challenging aspect of being a musician?
Staying true to oneself is a formidable challenge in the music industry. The industry tends to favor trends, making it vital to strike a balance between showcasing your music while standing out, without succumbing to the pressure of catering solely to commercial demands. I strive to produce quality music that speaks for itself, hoping to find an audience that shares my appreciation.

Tell us more about your release?
This time, my approach to creation was slightly different. It all began with playful experimentation in the studio, where I stumbled upon a melody that instantly transported me to a unique moment from the past year. The melody vividly reminded me of a journey after a card reading session in Bali, where the road was illuminated by an incredibly beautiful full moon. Upon returning home, I discovered that this was a rare pink full moon. Hence, the name of the song, “Purnama,” which translates to “full moon” in Indonesian. For the Balinese, this lunar phase holds significant energy and importance. The melody captures the emotions of that singular moment—mystical yet accompanied by groovy beats, creating a compelling fusion that resonates with me.
What has been your most significant career achievement thus far?
I crafted a track titled “A Dolphin’s Tale,” inspired by the ocean. Blond:ish featured my track in her Antarctica Expedition Mix during Earth Day. Witnessing an idea from my mind come to life in such a manner is truly special and stands as a remarkable highlight in my musical journey.
Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?
My top advice is to remain open-minded and avoid pigeonholing yourself into a specific genre. Embrace music from various styles, as this will expand your musical horizons and enrich your performances or productions.
