Interview with RMA: The Journey, Inspiration, and Future of an Ethno/Afro House Pioneer

Write a short paragraph about your release (your inspiration, process, genre, instruments used in it, and the story behind the creation). I wanted to release an emotional and memorable Ethno/Afro House EP. My inspiration came from my passion for Afro House Music, and I aimed to blend traditional ethnic sounds with modern house beats to create a unique and captivating experience.

What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia? (write about your release with Cafe De Anatolia) Cafe De Anatolia is a label I have admired for a long time, and I am really proud and happy to have my first release, RMA – Samburu EP, on their label. It’s an honor to be part of a platform that champions Middle Eastern and ethnic sounds in electronic music.

What initially sparked your passion for music, and how did you decide to pursue a career in the industry? I discovered my passion for music as a child and decided to start producing music to express my creativity and connect with others through sound.

Can you share a memorable moment from your music career that made a significant impact on your artistic journey? When I started releasing my own music in the House Music genre, big names like David Guetta, Tiesto, and Don Diablo supported and played my tracks. That support was a pivotal moment that motivated me to continue producing music.

As an artist, how do you approach the creative process? Do you have any specific rituals or methods to get into the creative mindset? I usually produce music after a special trip or holiday, which provides me with fresh inspiration and new ideas.

What do you believe sets your music apart from others in the industry? What makes your sound unique? The recognition value of my music, blending emotional and passionate elements with unique ethnic sounds, sets my sound apart.

How do you handle challenges or setbacks in your music career? Is there a particular experience that taught you valuable lessons? I try to learn a lesson from challenges or setbacks and see them as experiences that help me grow and improve.

Collaboration is a crucial aspect of the music world. Have you collaborated with other artists, and if so, how has it influenced your musical direction? I have had several collaborations with different artists, which have given me new inspiration and ideas for my next songs.

With technology constantly evolving, how do you leverage digital platforms and social media to connect with your fans and promote your music? Every important event, milestone, success, news, and new music is immediately and promptly shared on all my social networks to keep my fans engaged and informed.

What’s your favorite part of being a musician? Is there a specific aspect of your career that brings you the most joy and fulfillment? I really enjoy seeing people having fun listening to my music and dancing to it. That connection and shared joy are incredibly fulfilling.

Could you share your thoughts on the role of live performances in connecting with your audience and building a dedicated fan base? Live performances are essential because fans want to experience their favorite artists up close and personal. It’s a vital part of building a dedicated fan base.

How do you stay motivated and inspired to continue creating music, especially during times when inspiration might be elusive? Inspiration often comes in the morning or during stressful phases when I need a creative outlet the most.

In your opinion, what is the most significant change the music industry has experienced in recent years, and how have you adapted to it? Popular genres change every few years. I adapt my music to these changes while maintaining my unique musical style and direction.

Tell us more about yourself and your music career. I started my music career at the age of 16. Initially, I was known as DJ Rapmaster A, producing party breaks, mixtapes, and remixes of Hip Hop and House Music. In 2014, RMA was born. With my own House Music releases, I reached top positions on Beatport and Apple Music charts. I have worked with artists like Fatman Scoop and labels such as Spinnin’, Controversia, Axtone, Cafe De Anatolia, and Sirup. My track “Show U” reached over 1.4 million streams on Spotify.

How would you describe your style of music? Emotional and passionate.

Where do you find inspiration? I find inspiration from all kinds of things, especially after special trips or holidays.

Describe how music is important to society. Music is food for the soul and connects people.

What is your best time of the day to create? In the evening.

Who are your musical influences? Currently, Black Coffee and Solomun.

What is the most difficult thing about being a musician? You always have to be creative.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far? My upcoming gig at Nature One Festival in Germany.

Are you working on something new? Yes, there are two more EPs coming soon.

Where and when is your next performance? 3 August 2024, Nature One Germany.

What’s the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you? Do not lose your passion, never give up, and keep going.

What’s your process for dealing with performance anxiety? I am constantly working on developing myself.

Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians? Stay courageous and creative.
