Tell us more about yourself and your music career.
I am Tommy Vibes, a DJ and Producer from Dubai, U.A.E., with a deep passion for house, dance, and disco music. Over the years, I have established myself as a prominent figure in the vibrant Dubai music scene. What sets me apart is my ability to bring people together through my music, fostering a sense of togetherness and pure enjoyment on the dance floor. Whether I’m rocking the decks at local clubs or headlining major festivals, my aim is to deliver unforgettable performances that keep the crowd moving all night long. I have had the privilege of performing at prestigious venues and events in Dubai, including a memorable appearance on Virgin Radio Dubai. One of the highlights of my career was being invited to warm up for the incredibly talented Nancy Ajram at the Dubai Festival City. It was an honor to share the stage with her and entertain her fans before she took the spotlight. I have also had the pleasure of performing a remarkable DJ set at Dubai Design District for Design Week 2022 and holding the title of Official DJ at Pop Con Middle East, held at Expo City Dubai.
How would you describe your style of music?
My music style is designed to invoke a sense of relaxation and a connection to nature, while still maintaining the upbeat energy and danceability of house music. I strive to create a mellow and laid-back vibe, featuring groovy basslines, percussive beats, and warm melodies. By incorporating elements of world music, such as tribal drums and ethnic instruments, into my productions, I create a fusion of traditional and modern sounds. Additionally, I often incorporate organic samples and live recordings to add depth and texture to my tracks.
Where do you find inspiration?
Dubai, being a melting pot of cultures, exposes me to various musical traditions and styles through interactions with people from different parts of the world. This constant exposure inspires me to incorporate elements from diverse cultures into my own music, creating a unique fusion of sounds.
Describe how music is important to society.
Music serves as a powerful form of entertainment that brings people together, transcending barriers and unifying communities. It acts as a medium for expressing emotions and can be highly therapeutic, aiding individuals in coping with difficult situations. When I produce music, my goal is to create a sound that resonates with different cultures, helping people connect with their heritage.
What is your best time of the day to create?
I find that I am most productive and creative during the morning and evening hours.
Who are your musical influences?
An incredible producer, Sabo, has played a significant role in influencing my music production. He is known for his ability to create a hypnotic and immersive atmosphere in his tracks. Additionally, I draw inspiration from old records, as they help me merge traditional and modern sounds seamlessly.
What is the most challenging aspect of being a musician?
Balancing a music career with personal relationships and other responsibilities can be quite challenging. As music production demands extensive time and effort spent on research and finding the right ideas, it can be a struggle to maintain communication with family and loved ones.
What has been your most significant career highlight so far?
I have been fortunate to achieve several notable milestones in my career. Some of my proudest moments include performing a DJ set at Virgin Radio Dubai, warming up for Nancy Ajram at the Dubai Festival City, and delivering an outstanding performance at Dubai Design District for Design Week 2022. Additionally, being an Official DJ at Pop Con Middle East, held at Expo City Dubai, was an incredible honor.
What is your connection with Cafe De Anatolia? (Write about your release with Cafe De Anatolia)
When I first encountered the tracks of other artists who released their music on Cafe De Anatolia, I was immediately captivated by the label’s unique and mesmerizing sound. The fusion of traditional and modern elements in their music created an enchanting atmosphere that transported listeners to another world. Inspired by this sound, I embarked on a journey to create a track that would capture the essence of Cafe De Anatolia. Countless hours were spent experimenting with different sounds and rhythms, drawing on my vast musical knowledge and understanding of what makes a great track.
This is how “Mystic Karnak” came to life. “Mystic Karnak” is a mesmerizing ethnic deep house track that draws inspiration from the mystical and enchanting ancient Egyptian culture. Enchanting melodies transport listeners to the land of pharaohs and pyramids. The haunting vocals and tribal drums create an otherworldly atmosphere, while the inclusion of traditional Egyptian instruments like the darbuka and oud adds an authentic touch. The track builds up to a crescendo with the addition of electronic beats and synths, taking listeners on a captivating journey through time and space. “Mystic Karnak” is the perfect blend of ancient and modern sounds, providing a unique and unforgettable musical experience.
Are you working on something new?
My endless inspiration drives me to continue producing new tracks. Currently, I am working on an EP that will take listeners on an unforgettable ethnic journey around the world.
What’s the best piece of advice another musician has ever given you?
One of the most impactful pieces of advice I received from my mentor is to “Dare to be different and stay true to your heart! Don’t stop at your achievements. Set goals and keep moving forward!”
What’s your process for dealing with performance anxiety?
I firmly believe that if you don’t experience anxiety before a performance, it means you don’t truly care about the outcome. I always feel nervous before any performance, regardless of its scale. However, once I press play and the first beats of my track fill the air, the anxiety dissipates, and I immerse myself with the crowd in the magical world of grooves and beats.
How has COVID-19 changed the music industry? How has it affected you?
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about significant changes in the music industry. It compelled me to view everything from a different perspective and prompted a reevaluation of myself as an artist.
Do you have any advice for aspiring musicians?
Remember that there will always be individuals who are more skilled than you. Instead of feeling discouraged, let this realisation serve as a reminder to continually practice and develop your skills to become the best version of yourself.
