Alex Malagoli
Can you introduce yourself to our audience?
I began my career in 1990 as a DJ. Having been immersed in electronic music since childhood, I was fortunate to take up residency at a club called Le Privé in 1994. I stayed there for 10 years, during which I had the privilege of sharing the stage with legends such as Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, David Guetta, Paul Johnson, Bob Sinclar, Martin Solveig, Benny Benassi, and Daft Punk, to name a few. During my residency, this club was voted the best club in France three times by Trax Magazine for electronic music and ranked in the top 10 best clubs in Europe!
In addition to my DJ career, I transitioned to music production in 1998, forming and leading the band Superball, which enjoyed international success with singles such as “G.B.I.,” “Music Is Pumping,” “My Future Is You,” and “Sexy Guitare.”
In May 1998, I moved to Cannes, where I became the resident DJ at Le Baôli and had the honor of being the official DJ at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000, as well as a resident at Club Le Village in Juan-les-Pins.
My passion for music has led to unique experiences and exceptional encounters, notably with the Daft Punk duo, whom I had the chance to see without their iconic helmets when they played at Club Le Privé in Les Angles, where I opened for them on two occasions. I love enchanting crowds with my music and transmitting good energy, love, and light in the clubs and festivals where I perform.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music, specifically in electronic genres?
As a child, I was immersed in disco, soul, and funk, and I became fascinated with the arrival of synthesizers and the first drum machines. Naturally, the first house tracks caught my attention, and I immediately loved the sound and groove. The world of clubs was already part of my teenage years, as my mother used to hang out with a club owner, and I spent a lot of time in the DJ booth, observing. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a DJ and play house music.
How would you describe your style and sound?
I play House Music, focusing on beautiful melodies and vocals. I also enjoy mixing it with House Electro, incorporating loops and big drops that can put dance floors in a trance.
Tell us about your latest release.
My new single is inspired by African grooves to transmit good energy to listeners.
What message or feeling do you want listeners to take away from this release?
When they listen to “Unadunda,” I hope they feel the joy of living and staying positive, even during tough times. Love and light always prevail.
Can you walk us through the creative process behind this project?
I was inspired by the voice and created the single around it, adding warmth and groove. I wanted this track to be luminous and radiate good vibes.
How does this release differ from your previous work?
In the past, my tracks were more dancefloor-oriented and less polished. This single is deeper, with much more attention paid to construction, elements, and sound. I also had the support of two key people who refined my production style: my wife and my sound engineer friend, Nicolas Tanda, who played an integral role in making this project a success. Signing with Cafe De Anatolia was a great decision, and we’re thrilled to be part of their family.
What do you think is the biggest challenge for artists in the electronic music industry today?
You need to stay creative and avoid taking the easy way out. I see many tracks that are just covers of existing songs. While it’s fine to update hits with a fresh perspective and energy, copying and pasting without adding value doesn’t benefit music or culture.
What role do events, collaborations, or labels play in shaping your career?
It’s tough these days to get signed by a label without a strong social media presence. The focus on appearances and “fake DJs” has often overshadowed creativity and authenticity. That’s why I appreciate Cafe De Anatolia—they actively support and discover new talent, staying true to the music. I’m proud to be part of their label.
Do you have any advice for aspiring artists looking to break into the scene?
Work hard, challenge yourself, and take inspiration from the greats, but always remain humble. Pass on love and joy through music. We’re only on this earth for a short time, so spread good energy!
What can your fans expect next?
I have several projects ready, currently being mixed by my friend Nicolas Tanda, and then mastered by Alen Milivojevic, a mastering expert. I’ll prioritize releasing them through Cafe De Anatolia.
